Obituary written by Lula McComb in 1902: [She was d-i-l pf John and m. to his son James]
Mrs. Eliza McComb passed away very suddenly Feb. 10 and her funeral took place Feb. 13. She was 81 years old and her long life was full of changes and trials which were met with fortitude, cheerfulness and Christian trusts. Rev. Mr. Piper, her pastor, came from Dexter to conduct the services at her home and burial was in the Greeley Cemetery. Mrs. McComb belonged to a very old Scotch family who went from Scotland to Killeleif, Tyrone Co. in (1693 ?) where Eliza was born. Her parents were David Barton and Margaret Reed who came with their family to New York in 1837. She was married to James McComb in 1842, and after going to Pennsylvania for a short time, they returned to New York coming thence in 1846 to Garland for their permanent home. They lived on the place now owned by their son D. B. McComb, three years after, removing to the place where they both died. They brought two children to Garland of their family of nine and all the rest were born here. Five of whom are now living. Two sons Thomas and Barton and three daughters Mrs. Sarah Noble and Misses Mary and Matilda McComb. James the husband and father died in 1880. He was one of four brothers. James, John, Robert, and Aleck who came in early manhood from New York to Garland uniting with the church and bringing up their families here to be worthy citizens. Mrs. McComb was a member for 40 years of the Free Baptist in this place. Kindness and love in her family and to the poor and among her neighbors were among the virtues which adorned her Christian profession. Her home was among her loving children Mary, Matilda and Thomas
