The daughter of Joseph Strew and Marguerite Agathe Béland, "Emilie" Strew was baptised on June 19th, 1853 in Saint Felix de Kingsey Catholic church, a small mission within Shipton Township, Quebec, the priest noting she had been born "nineteen months before." As a young woman, Emily ventured out of the Eastern Townships and made her way to Lyme, New Hampshire, perhaps at the urging of older brother George, who had settled there following his marriage to Alma Lamphere of Lyme in 1870. Emily would soon marry herself, in the early 1870's to Alma's uncle Charles Nelson Lamphere, recently widowed from Betsey (Stetson) Lamphere. Though Charles was much older, Emily became his willing bride and step-mother to his only daughter Ella Dora, though the couple would thereafter produce six children of their own. Daughter Olive was born in 1873, soon followed by John (1875), Jennie (1878), Frank (1880), Harriet (circa 1883) and Charles, Jr. (1888). After her husband's passing in 1893, Emily would marry a second time, to Chandler A. Wilbur on June 20th, 1896 in Orford, New Hampshire, and would remain with him until his death in 1913.

Emily married Charles Nelson Lamphere, son of David Lamphere and Sarah. (Charles Nelson Lamphere was born in 1825 in Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont, died on 14 Nov 1893 in Lyme, Grafton County, New Hampshire and was buried in Lyme, Grafton County, New Hampshire.). The cause of his death was heart disease.

Emily next married Chandler Amasa Wilbur, son of Chandler Wilbur and Maria Dean, on 20 Jun 1896 in Orford, Grafton County, New Hampshire. (Chandler Amasa Wilbur was born on 8 Mar 1846 in Surry, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, died on 19 May 1913 in Troy, Cheshire County, New Hampshire and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Troy, New Hampshire.)
