Miramichi - Gerald Green Sr., husband of Flora Green, of Forrest St., Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the age of 78.
Born in Davis' Cove, Newfoundland, on July 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Joseph and Laura (Hines) Green. He was a retired employee of the Dept. of National Defence (R.C.A.F.) in the trade of Aircraft technician. Following retirement from the Armed Forces, he was an employee of the Canadian Corps of Comissionaires. He was Anglican by Faith.
He is survived by his wife, the former Flora Kingston; two daughters, Brenda Kennedy, of Winnipeg, Man., Sharon Green (Joseph Martinez), of Dartmouth, N.S.; one son Gerry Green Jr. (Connie), of Miramichi; four grandchildren, Andrew, Scott, Evan, Lauren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
By his request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A public memorial service was held from St. John the Evangelist Church, Bay du Vin, on Monday, January 9, 2012, at 11 am, conducted by the Venerable Richard Steeves and Rev. Robert Barry. Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Dawn Bell and the church choir. Hymns wwere "Just As i Am", "Beyond The Sunset" and ""The lords My Shepherd". Scripture was read by Gerry Green Jr. Interment will be in the church cemetery, later in the spring. Following the service, a reception with the family was held in the church basement.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Extra Mural Nursing program or the Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated by the family.
