Thomas Smith

   Cause of his death was epilepsy.

  General Notes:

per research of Sally Towers he was a twin to Valentine Smith; he and Laura had 12 children and then Laura died (1874) and Thomas married (5 Nov 1875) her sister Abigail Knight. Thomas lived in VT all his life. His second wife Abbie died 14 Aug 1907. She also found in research that Thomas Smith "possessed an unblemished character, was fearless, generous to a fault and physically very strong"
He and his wife Laura had 12 children, 5 died in infancy and one at 10 yrs of age.

Text "Thomas Smith. Son of Daniel Smith and Polly (Straw?) Smith, Born Oct. 31, 1806, Waterborough, Maine. Died Oct. 26, 1880, Waterbury, Vermont. Came to Waterbury in 1814 when he was 8 years old, by ox cart and had his first pair of shoes at that time. He married Laura Fisk Knight, daughter of John Knight and Eunice (Fisk) Knight Nov. 18 1827. They had 12 children, six of whom survived to adulthood. He married (2nd) in 1875, Laura's younger sister Abigail Knight. Thomas is buried in Old Waterbury Cemetary with both wives and the children who died young. Thomas next married Abigail Knight, daughter of John Knight and Eunice Fisk, on 5 Nov 1875. (Abigail Knight was born about 1811, died on 14 Aug 1907 and was buried in Old Waterbury Center Cemetery in Waterbury, Vermont.)
