"Charles Straw born Sept 4 1842 m. Nancy Loretta Fluke 11 Apr 1867; res Deep Water, MO. Charles lived in Allen County, OH at the time of the breaking out of the Civil War. He enlisted on Apr 18, 1861 and served in CO E 81st OH Volunteer Infantry until July 28th 1865 at which time he was honorably discharged. His service covered the entire period of the war. In 1869 he moved to Henry County, MO and resided on a farm there until in 1904 at which time he moved to Deep Water where Mr and Mrs Straw now reside. He is a representative citizen, a man honored and loved by all."

"Uncle Charlie Straw, one of Deepwater's oldest and best known residents, and one of the little Band of Union veterans, died on Wednesday, May 13. The funeral service was held in Deepwater at the Presbyterian Church on Friday, and the interment was in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton."

Death certificate on file (17772) in Deepwater, MO indicates primary cause of death to be bronchial pneumonia with senility a contributing factor. The informant was his son Rush Straw. Occ: retired carpenter
