Hello Celeste, you have a John McCombs born in 1803. In the

1850 Garland, Penobscot County, ME
John McCoombs 44, Maria McCoombs 27, Harrison Knight 24 [could he be Wm H. Knight a son of her sister Nancy?], Ann McCoombs 50, family 126.
[Alexander Macomb 40, family 121, and James McCoombs 35, family 130, are also listed in this same census]

1860 Garland, ME
John McCoombs age 51 b. Ireland
Maria age 54 born ME
John H McCoombs age 14 born NY [John's nephew]
Robert McCoombs age 11 born NY [John's nephew and a bro of John H. They are sons of "Robert McCombe" who was living in NY in 1850 with these two boys in his household]

1870 - can't locate her...no listing for Maria McComb/Macooms etc or Maria Straw in Maine census. Died in Waterboro in 1873. I checked the 1870 census for all her siblings and she is not with any of them.

Based on all of the above it would appear that Maria could not have married Gideon until after the death of her husband John McComb in 1867. Gideon was unmarried in 1860 census and shows no wife in his household in 1870.... so marriage to Maria could have taken place between 1867 and 1873 when she died. She is not buried with first husband John [and not with Gideon....as least not documented] but lies in her family cemetery [Carpenter Cemetery in Waterboro, ME]
