The following is a letter written by his cousin Lawrence E. (to)Mr. A. L. Straw (from) Carey, OH Mar 13th 1913 Tabor, IA Dear Cousin My Uncle Milton Straw of Villlisca, Iowa, has sent on to me your letter date Feb 24th. I am glad to know about you and that you are a grandson of Jason Straw. I have written you a short sketch of the Straw family as I am getting up a history and when I get through will send you one. When your grandfather moved from Wyandot County Ohio to Allen County he never came back to visit very often and I suppose the reason for it was because his father and brothers were unkind to him. So your branch of the family has gotten away from us and I know (sic) want to learn all about you. Last fall I went to Iowa to see Uncle Milton, and all his family. Had I know (sic) you were there I should have visited you for a day or two, you and I are third cousins, our fathers were first cousins, and our grandfathers were brothers, Samuel and Jason, You are interested in the Straw family so I have written just a little about them for you. You will no doubt get confused but read it slowly and you can easily figure out where you come in. You see Uncle Milton is my father's brother and your second cousin. You have a lot of relation in Ohio, so come and see me sometime and I will show you your grandfather's old home where they first settled in Ohio. I am 36 have 2 children, lived here in Carey all my life. My brother George is dead and my sister Nellie is married and lives in Columbus, OH. I want you to tell me where your grandfather and grandmother is buried. Are you sure your grandmother's name was Harpster? Do you remember here (sic) first name? How many brothers and sister (sic) have you? What are their names and where do they live? Give me the names of all their children. You see your branch of the family is lost and I will have to know about you all to get the right connections. So write me about this when you have time. You ought to be glad your name is Lewis because it has been handed down in the family for years. Uncle Lewis was the last one to die of my grandfather's brothers. He was rich and you are probably named for him. Your father Charles Straw likely knew Uncle Lew and liked him so you were given that name. Uncle Lew has three girls and 2 sons all live near me and not one of them has a child. they have money and you better come out here sometime and see them for we all wonder who will get their money when they are gone. Write to me when you have time and tell me about your people that I have asked about. Your Cousin, Lawrence E. Straw
