Dorothea Elizabeth Dorfner, 88, of Vassar-Warner Home in Poughkeepsie, died Friday evening, May 12, 2006 at Victory Lake Nursing Center in Hyde Park, N.Y., of natural causes. Formerly of Humiston Avenue, Troy, she was the beloved wife of the late John G. Dorfner, who died in 1987, and dear mother of the late John F. Dorfner, who died in 1969. She was daughter of the late Frank August Ostwald and Katherine Christina Hart Ostwald. Dorothy was born and educated in Troy. She was a past president of School 2 (1951) and a member of the school council. She volunteered to teach at the Troy Senior Center and also taught crafts at a local summer camp. She was a member of the Community Home Bureau for over 50 years, and was a long-time active communicant of St. Peter's Church in Troy. Survivors include her granddaughter, Donna Lewis (Sean) of LaGrangeville, N.Y.; her grandson, John F. Dorfner Jr. (Eva) of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jennifer, and Courtney Lewis and Oliver Dorfner; three sisters, Katherine Petruska of Troy, Bertha Mary Hogan (Joseph) of Latham and Gertrude Debboli (Rev. Walter) of Conn.; a brother, Lawrence Ostwald (Miriam) of Saratoga Springs; her sisters-in-law, Dolores Ostwald of Troy, Philomena Ostwald of Watervliet and Betty Ostwald of Wynantskill, Marie Keevern (John) of Clifton Park, Elsie Adams of Mass. and Ruth Slonneger of Ill.; and a brother-in-law, Walter Dorfner (Ann) of East Greenbush. Dorothy is predeceased by her brothers, John, Frank, George, Carl, Joseph, Leo Lawrence, Leo Martin and Gerard Ostwald, and a sister Bertha Anne Ostwald. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Ave., Lansingburgh and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the pastor, Rev. William A. Gorman. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
