bullet  General Notes:

son James Madison Moore's death records state father John Moore born in Weare, NH and mother Betsey Howes born Henniker, NH

John may have been a twin...there is a grave in Forestdale cemetery in Crown Point, New York with the following inscription on it: JULIA MOORE DAUGHTER OF JOHN MOORE DIED APRIL 13, 1790. It is also most coincidental that John named his only daughter JULIA.
E.C. Plummer of Devon CT lists Weare, NH as John's birthplace and KindredKonnection on the internet also states he was born in Weare and married Betsey Howe. His birth is recorded in the NH VR of Hopkinton, NH on pg 39 of Vol I...it was not necessarily true that parents always recorded where their children were actually born and sometimes parents listed all their children at the same time. Birth certificates were not issued until a much later date when they became more accurate. John was about 23 when he married to Betsey and the birth of their son is listed as May 1814 in the VR of Hopkinton, NH. Three more children followed and all their births are listed for Hopkinton.
In a History of Acworth, NH it states "John Moore of Weare, NH settled in Acworth, afterwards removed to Crown Point, NY [according to census by 1820]. Children I James M. II Horace III Albert IV John V Julia" ..it appears that the family migrated from Acworth to Crown Point but it does not give the year. No records are available for this time according to the Town Historian. From various census records of Crown Point it seems the family arrived there c1829. William his brother and their family had arrived and settled around three years prior to this and the boys' widowed mother was also there living with William and his family. His father's Will of 1809 (probated 1812) allots him 10.00 from the Estate when he comes of age. He was 19 at the time. William was the Executor of the Will and he was instructed to care for their mother which explains why she came to Crown Point with them.
Assessor's Roll of Crown Point (1835) shows John was a taxable property owner (now 45 yrs old). It is not known when the family home was built but it was a "wedding cake" federal style home and said to be unique to the area. It was built prior to 1864.[I have photos of it.]
The census of 1850 lists John as a farmer and native of Vermont (it is possible that the lines dividing Vt and NH were unclear at that time). At this time only two of the children were living at home..Horace age 30 and Julia age 20 who married the following month to Oliver Pond.
James and Albert were said to have gone west to open a clothing store and became quite wealthy.[family lore - untrue re: James Madison]
Betsey preceeded John in death and Horace, still living at home, took up the care of his infirm father.
Helen Chase Belden tells the following story of her grandfather Horace. It seems John requested that Horace build for him a coffin so it might be in readiness for him when he passed on. Horace, a fine carpenter and cabinet maker, honored his father's wishes and fashioned for him a coffin. It was placed on the front porch of the house and remained there for quite a few years before it was put to use.
Both John and Betsey are buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Crown Point, NY.
