L. Isabelle (Butler) Temm - 89
WINDHAM -- L. Isabelle (Butler) Temm, 89, of Pope Road, died peacefully on April 3, 2011, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by family.
Isabelle was born in Westbrook on June 26, 1921, the daughter of Raymond W. and Lillian T. (Straw) Butler. She graduated from Gorham High School with the class of 1940. After high school she attended Adams School of Beauty Culture.
In 1943 she married Edwin C. Temm, who predeceased her in 1964. They were married 22 years and together they made their home in Windham, where she resided for 66 years.
Isabelle retired from Swampscotta Nursing Home in 1986 after 16 years of service as their Activity Coordinator.
In her earlier years, she was an active 4-H member for nine years and then a 4-H leader for 16 years. Later on she became a member of Gorham High School Alumni Committee, was a member of the Windham Health Council for over 50 years and volunteered with Community Health Services. Isabelle was a member of the Windham-White Rock Homemaker Extension group of which she had held all of the Offices over the years. In 2010, she was honored as the Cumberland CountyHomemaker of the Year. She attended Friend's Meeting House and was active in the Friendly Helpers. Isabelle was a very kind and giving woman who will be remembered for her determination and positive attitude.
Isabelle loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds, gardening, African Violets, handcrafts, genealogy, writing letters, and making needhams, apple pies and pickles.
She was predeceased by Edwin Temm, Edward Butler, Eva Temm Pushard, and Diane Faunce Temm. Survivors include son-in-law, E. Douglass Pushard of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, Kenneth L. Temm of Gorham, son and daughter-in-law, Dennis C. and Marie Temm of Raymond, and daughter and son-in-law, Lois S. and Edward King of Jay. She is also survived by several grand and great-grandchildren; and friend of over 75 years, Cora Dyer of Portland.
The family of Isabelle Temm would like to thank the amazing staff and volunteers at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough for their dedication and loving care given to their mother. Thank you also to all of the family and friends who were in contact with her during these final weeks. It all meant so much to her.
A visiting hour will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham, with the service following at 11 a.m. at the chapel.
