Pipestone, Minn. - Virgil Straw, 61, died Monday in Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Services will begin at 2 PM Friday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Pipestone with burial in New Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be all day Thursday in Lindquist-Hartquist Funeral Home, Pipestone.
Vergel Wayne Straw was born to Almond and Mabel (Schroeder) Straw on Dec 16, 1925 in Altona twp, Pipestone County, MN where he was raised and grew to manhood. He was baptized in the Methodist Church and confirmed in St. Paul Luthern Church of Pipestone, MN. As a young man he went to California where he worked for two years. He then joined the Merchant Marines and served with them for several years. Following his service he worked as a lather in Minneapolis, MN for a short period of time. He was united in marraige to Kathryne Johannsen of Pipestone in Yuma, AZ on 26 feb 1949. Following their marriage, Vergel worked as a lather in California and Texas befor returning to Pipestone in 1951. The same year he began working at HyPane Gas Company and later served as manager of that company. In 1971 he purchased HyPane Gas Co which he continued to operate until Jan of this year. He was a member of St. Paul Luthern Church in Pipestone.
Vergel entered the hospital on 25 Oct 1987. He died there 9 Nov 1987 at the age of 61 years.
Lovingly remembered by his wife Kathryne of Pipestone, his son and daughter in law Mike and JoAnn Straw of Pipestone; two grandchildren Brad and Sara; sister Sharon(Mrs Duane Marsolek) of Anoka, MN; four brothers Darrel of Selford, AZ;Bob of Elk River, MN; Larry of Big Lake, MN and Darwin of Monticello, MN; Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Betty Vartdal and Caroline Trigg and one brother Charles.
