bullet  General Notes:

William Moore, who was a native of County Tyrone, Ireland, emigrated to America early in the eighteenth century, and became one of the first settlers in Pembroke, N.H. He was a Deacon of the Congregational church.

He is named in his father's will and if sons were named in order his name is listed first.

He may have been named for Deacon James' father? (Agnes' father was named John)

per Carter's History of Pembroke, NH: in 1764 there was a William Moor who signed a petition to the governor Re: fishing rights in the Merrimack River. Also (Carter) there was a William Moor who was a selectman in 1764. In 1773 (Carter) mentions a William Moor who sold property to Deacon Isaac White consisting of...." the northerly half of both lots divided lengthways... with the buildings.." This was most likely a farm and house and probably part of the original land purchased by his father, Deacon James Moor.It would be natural for Deacon James to have given land to each of his sons to build on as they married. It was about this time that Wm relocated to Thetford, VT.
In 1777 a William Moor served in the military from July 19 to September 26 with a Capt Samuel McConnell's Co, Col Thomas Stickney's Regt raised out of NH Militia which marched from Pembroke in July to join the Northern Continental Army at Bennington, VT and Stillwater, NY.
William does not appear to be buried in Pembroke..there is no headstone for him.

per Thetford Town records obtained by me in July 2000 I was able to find birth records on several of the children and a notation that "William Moor died July 22 1799 aged 78 years.." This was entered on same page as the children of James Moor and Emma and entered into the records of the town on 1818 by town clerk per request of "parent and child".

July 2000: Recieved from Gene Carter a copy of the Probate Of Wm Moor who died (1799) in Thetford, VT. Widow named Hannah (Moor)..unknown if her maiden name is Moor. children named are : James Moor (Executor), John Moor, Mary Ann Moor, Mary Moor, Wm Moor Jr, Ezra Moor, Hannah Moor, Susannah Moor, Cyrus Moor, Sarah Moor and Anna Moor

e-mail from Gene Carter 25 July 2000:
"Thetford Historical Society has a significant file on the Moore family....from notes I have already reviewed it appears that Deacon William Moor was first married to Mary McNeil and had children : John , Mary Anne, Mary, Wm Jr and Ezra, all of whom were probably born in Pembroke, NH and he and his second wife Hannah _____ had children Hannah, Susannah, Cyrus, James, Sarah and Anna, all of which, excluding Hannah, were born in Thetford, VT. The notes also indicate no record has been found of Mary's death or William's marriage to Hannah...."
