Predeceased by his father : Michael Sweeney, his grandparents and members of the Sweeney and McEvoy families. Leaving to morn his loving wife Edith (McEvoy) of 48 years , Sons: Brad (Faye), grandson: Brock, Craig (Danielle) and grandson: Dax, his mother: Mary Sweeney, his siblings: Rosemary (Gerald), Ernie (Joyce) , Terry ( Irene), David ( Maxine), Darlene( Dave ), Danny (Enobong) , Mike ( Peggy), Jacinta ( Tom ), Emmett, his brothers in law: Walter (Virgie), Joe (Marg), Austin, Gerald (Sharon), Pete (Gen ), Ed ( Brenda) , sisters in law: Mary ( Jimmy ) , Jeannie ( Keith ) Bon McEvoy , Shirley (McEvoy) also a huge number of nieces and nephews , cousins and friends . Don devoted most of his working life with the Iron Ore Company of Canada in Labrador City where he worked for 25 years with management. Upon returning to the island portion of our province he continued to work, this time in construction, and building new homes. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved hunting, ski-dooing and fishing. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus and a Search and Rescue officer, His love for his family was the greatest gift he offered and his grandsons Brock and Dax were his world. According to COVID restrictions, a private visitation will be in Hickey's Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Monday, January 24th, 2022 from 9:30 AM \endash 12:30 PM. by invitation only. Funeral service will take place in Hickey's Memorial Chapel, Kelligrews on Monday, January 24th, 2022 at 1PM by invitation only. NL Vax Pass and identification are required to attend visitation and funeral service. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
