HILL CITY - Viola Gladys "Toots" Mohr Straw of Hill City went home to be with the Lord. She passed away Dec. 30, 2010, at Custer Regional Hospital at age 84. Viola was born March 2, 1926, to William and Evangeline (Patterson) Mohr in Agar. She was 2 years old when her mother and family moved to Moon in 1928. She was raised on the Compton Ranch at Limestone and attended school at the Limestone Mountain School District in Moon. She also attended the Buckhorn and Horton Schools. Viola married Loite James Straw on June 5, 1945, at the Hill City Assembly of God Church. Twelve children were born to the marriage. Survivors include her children, Annette (Duane) Groves, Hill City, Floyd Straw, Fairburn, Donna Coppess, Nisland, Donald (Sherree) Straw, Rapid City, Donavan Straw, Bridge Water, Danny (Doreen) Straw, Hill City, Diane (Bill) Vanderbeek, Custer, Duane (Brenda) Straw, Hill City, Bonnie (Jerry) Goodroad, Nisland, Ronald Straw, Yankton, Dennis (Kiki) Straw, Hill City; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Robert Orsborn, Lewis Jr. Compton, Gussie Nissen, Wayne Compton, Martha Tober; and many friends around the Hill City area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loite Straw; parents; son, Derwin Straw; grandson, Frank "Jay Jay" Mahoney; and a brother, Arnold Orsborn. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Little White Church in Hill City, with Pastor Bill Savery as officiant. Interment will follow at the Hill City Cemetery.
