Charles H. Castle was born March 9, 1870, near Battle Creek, Mich.; and died July 7, 1959, at Sanitarium, Calif. He was a son of one of the pioneers of the Advent movement and was active in the work of the church until his last illness. In 1900 he was married to Pauline Chamberlain. He started in the work in 1893 as a secretary in Battle Creek Sanitarium, and he held similar positions in various conferences. He was a teacher or administrator in the Arizona Sanitarium, South Lancaster Academy, Maritime Academy, Pacific Union College, and Sutherlin Academy. Also he was secretary-treasurer in Northern New England, Utah, Southern New England, and British Columbia conferences. He held the same office in the North Pacific and Southwestern union conferences. He was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1919 and for a while was engaged in pastoral work in the New York and Western Washington conferences. After his retirement Elder Castle was always willing to help when called upon to fill church appointments in nearby churches. He was fond of young people and glad to assist them with their problems. He is survived by his wife and an only child, Mrs. Leola B. Starkey.[Pacific Union Recorder Angwin, California Jul 20, 1959]

Charles married Nita C. Straw, daughter of Sanford James Straw and Alida Jennings, on 3 Jul 1894 in Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan. (Nita C. Straw was born on 17 Feb 1875 in Oasis, Waushara County, Wisconsin, died on 21 May 1897 in Oasis, Waushara County, Wisconsin and was buried in North Deerfield Cemetery in Hancock, Wisconsin.)
