bullet  General Notes:

per research of S. Phaneuf: A James M. Straw served in Civil War; Co A, 12th NH Inf; private; enlisted 14 August 1862; age 20; died wounds at Cold Harbor, VA on 3 June 1864. From Pension files: A James M. Straw of NH- His father Joseph filed 3 May 1870 for his pension. Could James M. have been James Marcellus Straw s/o Joseph and Mary Hill who was born in NH c. 1842. It would certainly explain why there seems to be no record of him under the name of Marcellus.
