research of E. Myrick [ Ehistory2@aol.com ] for DOD POD - Death Cert. # 1013 William Jackson Straw known as the General in the 1860 Hustisford, Dodge Co., Wisconsin census. Was the son of Enoch Straw and Betsey Welch. William was also called Jackson and Jack Straw. William married Elizabeth Jane Kettner on 1-8-1874 In Jasper County, Iowa by Minister J.N. Bushy. They had 9 children: Lillie May 1874, Mary Elizabeth 1875, Ida Frances 1878,John Greenleaf Fairfield 1880, William, Jr, 1882,James Franklin 1884,Andrew Jackson 1886, Clara Bell 1889 and Mabel Florence 1891. All born in Iowa. William and his family left Story County, Iowa after 1895 and moved to near Wishart, Polk Co., Missouri by 1900, then to Coffeyville, Kansas by 1910. They settled in Washington County, Arkansas around 1915. Their home and farm is now part of Devil's Den State Park. William and Elizabeth were my great grandparents. I am a descendant of their son Andrew Jackson Straw William and his wife Elizabeth Jane Kettner-Straw and John are all buried in the Friendship Church Cemetery at West Fork, Washington County, Arkansas. They moved from Story County, Iowa to Polk County, Missouri to Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas and to Washington County, Arkansas. After William died gr. gr. grandmother Elizabeth took turns living or staying with her children until she died in 1920 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. I have a letter written by her on grandfather Andrew Jackson Straw's business paper, Straw Well Drilling Company letter head paper to her daughter in Wishart, Missouri.
