James Brown Howell (65) was born on 4 Apr 1790 in Minisink, Orange Co., NY. He died on 25 Oct 1831 in Newfane, Niagara Co., NY. He died when he was struck by a falling tree.
James Brown Howell was said to have been the last entry in the legendary Welsh Bible (Howell, Wilbur Franklin).
There is controversy surrounding James Brown Howell, Sarah Stage, and their purported son, Epenetus. Epenetus' gravestone says that he died 18 Mar 1846 at the age of 45 years, 5 months, and 11 days. This would have put his birth date at 7 Oct 1800, much too early to be the son of James Brown Howell and Sarah Stage unless their birth dates are wrong which is doubtful given the birth dates of their other children. Could it be that perhaps Epenetus was a brother to James Brown who was raised by him after the death of Phineas? He was married to Sarah Stage before 1808 in Orange Co., NY.......

i. Epenetus Howell was born on 7 Oct 1800 in Orange Co., NY. (36) He died on 18 Mar 1846 in Hillsdale Co., MI. (36) He was buried in Goodrich Cemetery, Pittsford Twp., Hillsdale Co., MI.(36)
ii. Michael B. Howell was born on 4 May 1808 in NY. (66) He died on 21 Jan 1878 in Charlotte, MI. Another source puts death date at 28 Jan 1878. RESIDENCES: Hillsdale, MI. When quite young, Michael B. Howell worked for seven years on the Erie Canal. Michael B. Howell came to Michigan in 1837. Although not an ordained minister, he preached for several years, promulgating the faith of the Baptist Church.
iii. Olser D. Howell was born on 5 Feb 1810 in New York. He died in Oct 1893 in Michigan. RESIDENCES: Ionia, MI. Check Ionia County Death Record #5739.

v. Sally J. Howell was born on 30 Jan 1814. She died on 23 Apr 1889. I am not completely sure if this individual fits in this family. I have only seen one reference to her and it was not a primary or secondary source. More research may be required.
vi. William L. Howell was born on 29 Apr 1816 in NY. He died on 12 Jan 1894 in North Shade Twp., Gratiot Co., MI. Another source gives dates as 1815-1893.
vii. David Howell was born on 20 Jul 1818.
viii. Mary A. Howell was born on 27 Jun 1820.
ix. Walter B. Howell was born on 25 Dec 1822 in Ontario Co., NY. He died on 28 Aug 1885 in North Star, Gratiot Co., MI. Gratiot Co., MI
x. Julia Howell was born on 5 May 1825. She died on 7 Mar 1899.
xi. Harriet Howell was born on 23 Jan 1828. She died on 30 Jan 1828.
xii. Gilbert Howell was born on 7 Sep 1829. He died on 7 Sep 1829.

James married Sarah J. Stage, daughter of Unknown and Unknown. (Sarah J. Stage was born on 25 Dec 1789 in Orange County, New York, died on 3 Jul 1859 in Pittsford, Hillsdale County, Michigan and was buried in Unmarked grave near Osseo, Hillsdale Co., MI..)
