Hello, saw your website. I am related to William Smith born 1857. Wm and his mother are buried together in the same cemetery. I am unsure when, but Ruth remarried a Mr. Sampsell. She died 3-24-1914. Her death certificate states her parents were Henry Johnston and Ollie Straw. So I believe we are talking about the same person. I noticed on your website she married a Beer. Curious to where you received that info.[ mayjr@sbcglobal.net ]

Hello once again. I did the hard research and I found the information on Ruth Ann Johnson. I just ask if you could be kind enough to keep me in your research so that if any future developments would happen with this line, I could be notified to help my research as well. Please post this info on your website and spread the knowledge for all to participate but please remember me in the search of this family.
After the death of James Smith, Ruth married Elijah Casebeer aka Casebier on 11-3-1881 in Crawford Co., Ohio. He died 1-23-1887 in Dallas Twp., Crawford Co., Ohio. His death certificate states he was 63 years and 7 months. That puts his date of birth about 6-23-1823. Born in Ohio, crushed from a falling tree. OUCH. I left the courthouse in Crawford Co., Ohio and I inadvertently forgot to check to see if there was a will/estate settlement. I need to go back up that way to Richland Co., so I'll swing over to Crawford and check. I did not research Elijah's past because I am only interested in direct families.
Additionally, I checked out the estate of Henry Johnson and the will/estate of Disberry Johnson. Got copies of all of this stuff but I have not scanned them yet.
After Elijah's death, Ruth married John Sampsel 3-20-1890 in Allen Co., Ohio. I did not find any death records up to 1909 for him in Allen Co., Ohio or any wills or estates. Additionally, no will or estate settlements were identified for Ruth in Allen Co., Ohio or Crawford Co., Ohio. I did find a John Sampsel who died 6-28-1917 Crestline, Crawford Co., Ohio. He was born 9-6-1836 in Ohio, the son of Daniel Sampsel and Catharine Hoover. I can't locate him in the census living in or near Ruth but I find him in Crawford Co., Ohio. Were they separated? Ruth's death certificate and the census states she was married. I did not locate an obituary for her. One final note, John Sampsel was named in Henry Johnson's estate as was Ruth Ann Sampsel.
Additionally, James F. Smith, the son of Ruth died sometime after 1932. I erroneously documented that he died in 1906 from misleading information. That was the date of a James Smith buried elsewhere in the Harrod cemetery. That family was from Virginia so they were not related. This James was in the Civil war and his pension records don't reflect any relationship with our Smith's. So if I previously emailed you that date of 1906, please delete. Nancy R. Billings, the daughter of Ruth, who married Harry Billings had an obit in the Lima News. It states that her brother, who was the last surviving child of this family, was living in Winter Wisconsin. I have not found any additional info on him.
As a final note, I found some info that could be the father of James Smith Sr. I am currently working on it. I wonder if his father was William Smith because Ruth's father was Henry Johnson. Ruth's first son was William Henry Smith, named after the grandfathers. What are you thoughts?
Oh, by the way, I have not found Ruth in the 1870 census either. I have some thoughts that they may have migrated to Illinois but that is not confirmed.[Jack May jr]
