Straw, Donald D., 89, of East Montpelier, died April 6. Born in 1908 in Bolton, he was the son of Clarence and Edith (Damon) Straw. He graduated from Waitsfield High School. In 1938, he married Phyllis Brown. They had lived in New Hampshire and New York, before moving to East Montpelier in 1984. He worked for the Food, Machinery and Chemical Corp. as a developer and salesman. At age 77, he began writing essays, many of which were published. Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles; a daughter, Deborah Straw; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; three brothers; a sister; many nieces and nephews.
