"In 1875, Charles, while on business in Gatesville discovered the site of the old mill built by Joe Cox - a water powered corn cracker on the Leon River. At the encouragement of Charles, the Straws bought the mill and after vast improvements in building and equipment, Straw's Mill came into existence...Charles Henry (1846-1906) In addition to this partnership in the mill, owned and operated a grocery store in Waco...in 1875 he moved to Gatesville with the family and went in to the jewelry business..."

CORYELL REVISITED
Charles and George Straw moved to Coryell County in 1875 and bought the old Cox Mill, which had been established by J. M.Cox. Cox had settled the adjacent land in' 1865. The Straws, who made extensive improvements, had a fine flour mill and carried a large stock of
general merchandise. The place became known as Straw's Mill
