was the wife of Douglas L. Phillips. Her parents were Laurence Edmundo Straw and Edith Laura Van Fleet. According to social security records, she died June 1984. I spoke to the cemetery caretaker. He looked in his book and said that she died May 3, 1984 and the permit for her burial was issued on May 4, 1984. He said no one could be buried without a permit in Niagara County and they have to have died before a permit could be issued.

Virginia Straw Phillips
Virginia Straw Phillips, a native of Carey, died Thursday, May 3, 1984, at Newfane Hospital, Newfane, N.Y. She was 77.

Graveside services held May 5, at Glenwood Cemetery, Lockport, N.Y. Interment was made in the family plot of her surviving husband Douglas L. Phillips, a retired fruit grower. They married Oct. 30, 1942 in Cleveland.

She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kirtland Straw, Buffalo, N.Y.; another sister-in-law, Laura Phillips, Lockport; a niece, Sara Straw Wright, Atlanta, Ga., an aunt Katherine Van Fleet, Cleveland and cousins.

Born in Carey Feb. 27, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurence E. Straw and the granddaughter of the late David Straw and Frederick Van Fleet, prominent businessmen in Carey's history. She attended public school in Carey and spent the last two year's of high school as a graduating student at the Harcourt Girls School, Gambier. For many years, she was a resident of Olcott, N.Y.

Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Newfane, N.Y. and Christ Lutheran Church, Carey.
