\emdash Norrine P. Straw, age 86, of Waterbury, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at the Mary Wade Home in New Haven.
Norrine was born Oct. 23, 1925, in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Frank A. and Nora Marie (McIntyre) Straw. She lived in Waterbury most of her life before residing with her niece, Janet Parkosewich, in North Haven. Norrine was a graduate of Crosby High School and the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. She was dedicated to the nursing profession, providing compassionate care to her patients throughout her career as Waterbury Hospital's operating room supervisor and in her later years, until her retirement at age 72 to Grove Manor Nursing Home.
Norrine's greatest passion in life was caring for her family and friends. As a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin or friend, she had an important presence in all of their lives, giving each of them unconditional love and support.
She is survived by "her children", three nieces and four nephews: Janet Parkosewich of North Haven, Ellen Kurdzo of Andover, Margaret Straw of Killingworth, Paul Parkosewich of Booneville, N.Y., Gary Parkosewich of Old Saybrook, Shawn Straw of Marion, Ohio, Robert Straw, formerly of Waterbury, and several great-nieces and -nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth (Straw) Parkosewich, and two brothers, Robert and Franklin Straw.
At the end of her life, Norrine became the recipient of the same exemplary level of nursing care that she provided her patients. The family is grateful to all of the staff at the Mary Wade Home for their compassionate and loving care of Norrine.
