bullet  General Notes:

Hiram Lorenzo ran away from home when he was a young teenager. He felt the work on the farm too exhausting and so he went to Vermont and worked on a farm there for an unknown man..not a relative.. until he saved up enough money to go to Albany and put himself through school to learn to be a book keepeer. He changed his name to George Waters..it must have been a legal change as his wife and children all used the name of Waters. He later became a book keeper for Kantowitz, a building contractor in Albany. After the birth of his children he and his brother Herbert met one day quite by accident in the Albany area...Herbert was now living in Rensselaer, NY and working in a felt mill. The family in Horicon was notified and Jeptha and his daughter Ida came to Albany for the happy reunion. It would seem all was forgiven for the Waters came to Brant lake to visit and the son Lee Waters even lived in Brant lake for awhile with his wife and children in the Bennett Cottage.

Dear Mother (Mrs. Jeptha Bennett)
As you have visited me in my dreams and have often been my guide when life brought us to face some situation I feel so happy tonight that I am permitted by Our Heavenly Father to thus address you and only hope that you will find me worthy of the name daughter as the years roll along.By this above you must have guessed that I am the wife of your son Hiram known to me as George William Waters, (it would seem she was refering to the monogram on the letter head of "W") We were married January 1, 1906 at a little Episcopal church in Rensselaer. My name was Sarah Almira Stewart and George married me under his assumed name and I knew nothing of his parentage but took the lad for himself and have never been sorry as he is a good companion and husband to me. We have two children, a girl "Esther" born March 22, 1909 and a son" Lee" born September 26, 1913.
I hardly know just how or what to write only I hope you will be as happy when the news reaches of Father and Ida finding us as I am that we were found. I have only two regrets- one that he didn't keep in touch with his parents; the other one is that he changed his name.
He is one dear good boy and son you can be proud of. He is book keeper and confidential man of Morris Kantrowitz the contractor here in Albany. We have a very dear little house and are home loving people, How I wish you could come and see us and be with us here if only for a short time.
Oh dear me I don't know what to write only I hope that you have a little space if ever so small in your heart left for us.
Goodnight Mother dear, I hope you will write us soon, with love from a mother to the mother of one of the dearest boys on earth. Lovenly (sic) Sadia
