Stanley H. Peavy, principal of the Graham High School, and Miss Ivy Straw, head of the English department of the school, were married at Weatherford, Texas on 5 July 1926.
Services for Stanley Hopkins Peavy, Sr , 71, prominent Graham church and civic leader, were held at First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Hubert Foust, pastor; Dr. D.L. McCree, pastor of First Methodist Church and Rev. J.C. Johnson, pastor of First Presbyterian Church.
Stanley Hopkins Peavy, Sr was the former president of First National Bank in Graham, he was serving as Chair of the Board at the time of his death. Mr. Peavy was secretary of the Graham Industrial Association and member of the Graham School Board. He was named recipient of Graham's Outstanding Citizen Award in 1961. Mr. Peavy served as president of the Graham Chamber of Commerce in 1936.
Mr. Peavy was a former president of the Graham Lions Club, past Worshipful Master of the Graham Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, member of the Board of Deacons of First Baptist Church in Graham.
Stanley Hopkins Peavy, Sr was a veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Armed forces overseas. He held membership in Ligon - Daniel Post American Legion.
Mr. Peavy held various offices in the First Baptist Church in Graham, serving on the building committee, Chair of the Finance Committee, former teacher in the Sunday School. He was former Sunday School Superintendent and a trustee of the church.
Mr. Peavy was named principal of Shawnee and East Ward Elementary Schools in 1920, later, he was named principal of Graham High School.
Stanley Hopkins Peavy, Sr established the Stanley H. Peavy Insurance Agency in 1939, and his son, Stanley Hopkins Peavy, Jr., became affiliated with the firm in 1956.
Mr. Peavy was known throughout Graham, Young County and North Texas among banking and insurance circles, and was one of Graham's outstanding civic leaders. His interests included his home, church and the betterment of Graham, Texas.
One brother, Walter Peavy died several hours before Mr. Peavy.
Survived by his wife; one son - Stanley Hopkins Peavy, Jr; three brothers - Rev. Will C Peavy, Kenneth Peavy, Clyde Peavy; one sister - Mrs. Conasper; three grandsons.
