CHARLES A. BROWNSON
Funeral services for Charles A. Brownson, 83, were held Sat. at the Friends Church with the Rev. Brad Hofen officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery directed by Goodwin Funeral Home. He died Jan. 27, 2004, at Cherokee Manor, Cherokee, OK.
He was born June 14, 1920, in Cherokee, OK. to Franklin and Mamie Hero Brownson. He grew up in Cherokee where he attended school. He and Beulah Straw were married Sept. 14, 1940 in Cherokee. Most of their married life was spent in Cherokee.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He served in the South Pacific from Nov. 12, 1944 to Oct. 19, 1945. He participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged Dec. 22, 1945. He worked for Alfalfa Electric Cooperative for 37 years, starting as a lineman and retiring in 1985 as a line superintendent.
He was a member of the Friends Church, American Legion and Cherokee Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Nancy Bliss of Enid, OK.; two sons, Frank of Midland, TX. and Charles of Joliet, IL.; six grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association through the funeral home.
