Gideon Straw

  General Notes:

The information on Gideon's line was forwarded to me by Susan Strange of Maryland and represents her research on that line descended from (Wm2 Wm 1); genealogy of Ellen Straw Thompson of 1897. Other sources include Kingston Church records and research of Smooers777@aol.com.
per research of Don Higgins, Gideon was 20 years old when he married Hannah Cass Swett. She was a widow and 10y older than he and had at least four daughters by previous marriage. He also claims she only bore one child to Gideon, namely Daniel. In 1749 Gideon built a house in Warner, NH. In 1758 he bought land in Nottingham, NH.
Per Rockingham Co deeds Sept 1764: Gideon sold 18 acres of land - purchased March 1758?
27 Feb 1765 Gideon ( no wife mentioned) bought 18 acres back
27 Feb 1765 Gideon bought back the same 18 acres with a wife Betty.
Gideon and Betsey resided Nottingham, NH. He signed the Association Test for Nottingham 16 Aug 1776.

Engaged 10 Jan 1778; discharged 4 Jan 1779 [Gideon served under Capt Samuel Dearborn's Co in Col Stephen Peabody's Regt raised by the State of NH for the Continental Service at RI. discharged @RI 30 Dec 1778 and allowed one days pay for every 20 miles travel home. Gideon was a Sgt; served 11 months and 26 days.

Gideon married Hannah Cass, daughter of John Cass and Hannah Gove, on 15 Nov 1744 in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. (Hannah Cass was born on 2 Oct 1713 in Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire and died about 1750.)

Gideon next married Elizabeth Hilton, daughter of Unknown and Unknown, about 1765. (Elizabeth Hilton was born on 11 Dec 1743 in Nottingham, Rockingham County, New Hampshire and died on 26 Dec 1803 in Newfield, York County, Maine.)
