Funeral services for Manville resident, Wyona "Pete" Overman, 89, was conducted at 2 p.m. on March 26, 2005, in Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk. Service was conducted by President Gary Hoopes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Born Oct. 1, 1915 in Red Oak, Iowa, Wyona Pearl Overman was the eldest of five children born to George and Anna Lackey. In 1918 her family moved to Torrington, where she lived and went to school until her marriage to Willie Howard West. To that marriage was born five children, Billy Roy, Edwin Don, Ethel Ann, Virginia Ellen and Jimmy Lee.
In 1949 she married John Overman, and to this marriage one child, Lois June was born. They lived in Lance Creek until John retired from Continental Oil Co. in 1969 when they moved to Manville.
Wyona worked hard to help support her family. Some of her jobs included picking cotton in Texas, working in the shipyards in California during World War II, and at a laundry service in Wyoming. Wyona loved Wyoming and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with family and friends. Wyona was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her love and pride in the Church was evident in all the offices she held and activities she took part of as a church member. She loved to make things from crafts to baking and took great pride in showing them off and sharing them with her church, friends and family. She was also an active member of the Manville Homemakers Club.
Survivors are her children Edwin Don West and wife Michal of Manville, Virginia Ellen Bowen and husband Ken of Casper, Jimmy Lee and wife Winnie of Carlton, Texas, Lois June Ladwig and husband Richard of Manville; sister Nellie Brookshire of Menlo Park, Calif.; step-children, Pauline Shannahan and husband Don of Casper, Betty Munsinger and husband Bob of Glenrock; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents, two sisters Helen Brookshire and Irene Crenshaw, one brother Morris Lackey, son Billy Roy West, daughter Ethel Ann McDonald, grandson Brian Ladwig, great-grandson Kenny Hough and step-grandson Johnny Shannahan.
Interment was at the Dellview Cemetery in Manville.
Memorials may be made to the Manville Homemakers Club.
