Peter and his wife were members of Sandown church in 1759. The Peter Colby House was located on Fremond Road built ca. 1770. During the 1770's Peter Colby of Sandown was captured by the Indians and taken to Canada where he was held as a prisoner for six months. He immediately returned to Sandown and played an active part in town affairs.
will is dated 10 Sep 1788. Peter Colby, of Sandown, yeoman. He gives to his wife all his lands and stock on the west side of the highway for her life, and then it is to be divided among his two sons. Son John to have lot #15 in the 200 Acre Grants, also land on west side of the highway beginning at Benjamin Hunking. Son Ebenezer the rest of his land and pew in the meeting house. Daughter Lydia Peaslee's children to get L3. To Elizabeth Straw's children L3. Daughter Mary Emerson L3. Daughter Sarah Webster, L3. Daughter Judith Straw L3, son Peter L6 in case of his return home. Granddaughter Molly Colby deducted from her father Peter's portion. Wit: Ela Dow, Abigail Dow, Joshua Palmer. Signed Peter "x" Colby. Proved 3 Aug 1792. Sons John and Ebenezer to be executors.
