NH birth records - 2nd child of Israel Straw b. Rowley, MA and Abiah (Nelson) Straw

He lived in Sugar Hill area until late in life and then moved to Weare. He and Betsey had 8 children. Sources include: IGI files; genealogy of Ellen Straw Thompson 1897; cemetery records;History of Goffstown, NH (Hadley)

1840 Weare, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire [fits his family profile] Samuel Straw HOH 1 male 1780-1790 [Samuel] 1 male 1810-1820 [Nelson?... Israel or Eleazer may have lived in MA; Benjamin married] 1 female 1780-1790 [wife Betsey] 1 female 1825-1830 [Diana - all other daughters married]

In the census of 1850 for Weare the household consists of Samuel ae 63 and his occupation is "gentleman"; his wife Betsey ae 60 and his son Nelson ae 42 years whose occupation is listed as "carpenter". Per his Will dated 13 April 1853 (probated 1 Sept 1857) he names his children:Benjamin, Adeline, Israel, Nelson, Mary, Aphia, Eleazer, and Dinnah. He also named his daughter Mary's husband Jacob Clark of Hopkinton as his Executor.

The Farmer's Cabinet vol 56 issue 7 page 3 obit In North Weare Mr. Samuel Straw age 70

for consideration: Could Samuel have had an earlier marriage with Margaret More with a daughter Belinda Straw born 1807 Weare, NH. Belinda's death records indicate her father was Samuel and her mother Margaret More. Samuel could have then married Betsey Burbank as their first child born a year later.

addenda: e-mail 120223 - According to Find-a-Grave, Samuel and Betsey Straw are in the Sugar Hill Cemetery in Weare. This is incorrect; somehow when Agate made the original upload he (or she) got the names of the cemeteries reversed so that the uploaded Sugar Hill is actually Eaton, and Eaton is Sugar Hill. The signs were reversed on the day the pictures were taken, but Sugar Hill's address is 838 Concord Stage Road (Rte 77 in NH); Eaton is 836, right next door but to the west of Sugar Hill. Doesn't effect anything unless you wanted to go there or you were talking to someone, like me, who knows which is which.(T H Stearns 3 Brander Court Nashua, NH 03063)
