MICHAEL NEWHOUSE
At four o'clock Thursday afternoon, November 22, another fatal accident occured on the Pittsburg track near North Robinson, the victim being a section hand named Michael Newhouse. As near as can be learned, the following were the circumstances of his death:
The engine was cut loose from the train a mile and a half west of the village and the gang of workmen stepped aside to let it pass. Immediately after it had passed, Newhouse stepped back on the track and resumed his work of measuring the distance between the rails with a guage to see there was no displacement. He was stooping down with his back to the train which was moving down rapidly upon him, when one of his fellow workmen in front of him noticed the danger and warned him to get out of the way. Newhouse looked up inquiringly and cast a look backward to see what the danger was. It was too late and when in the act of making a motion to get off he was struck by the train. He was shockingly mangled and death was instantaneous. His arms and leg were crushed and his neck and skull broken.
The engine was cut from the train while the train was in motion and as it is a downward grade at that place it moved eastward with considerable speed. It is said to be a rule of the company that no engine shall be cut loose while the train is in motion, and if these are the facts, the widow of the unfortunate man will doubtless receive compensation from the company.
Michael Newhouse was an honest man ... and had been in the employ of the company for eighteen years. His age was about forty-five and he leaves a widow and four young children to mourn his tragic death in the prime of his life. He was also a worthy soldier of the Republic, for whose existence he fought through the great civil war. The family live in the village of North Robinson.

Another Fatal Accident
Michael Newhouse, a section hand on the P. F., road at North Robinson, was killed by a train about a mile from that place, Thursday afternoon last week. He had stopped to let an engine pass and then stepped back again to his work not noticing the train was cut. The rear section struct and mangled him in a shocking manner, and his death of course was instantaneous. He was a member of Co. K, 81st O. V. I., and had a large circle of friends in this county, especially among the old soldiers. He leaves a family
