per Rootsweb research of Chas J. Peterson: Amos was an early settler (c 1783) of Bethel, ME, frequent town officer and leading citizen. Served in Rev War at Lexington and Bunker Hill and later at surrender of Burgoyne. Achieved rank of Captain in the War and later promoted to Colonel and Brigadier General.

Amos was the son of John Hastings of Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts and Rebekah Kelley of Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. John was married twice. John married Rebekah Kelley on 09 June 1743 in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts. Rebekah and John had six children. They
were: John Hasting was born on 11 April 1744 in Salem, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; Richard Hasting was born on 12 October 1745 in Salem, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; Jonas Hasting was born on 09 November 1747 in Salem, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; Timothy Hasting was born on 12 April 1750 in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts; Rebecca Hastings was born on 05 September 1754 in Methuen, Essex County, Massachusetts; and Amos Hastings was born on 03 February 1757 in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts. John married Mary Amy married 29 March 1759 in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts. Mary and John had eight children. They were: Wyman Hastings was born on 28 September 1760; Levi Hastings was born on 06 June 1762; Evan Hastings was born on 22 July 1764; Molle Hasting was born on 12 September 1766; Joshua Hasting was born on 07 June 1768; Abigail Hasting was born on 02 August 1770; Ann Hasting was born on 31 March 1772; and David Hasting was born on 17 June 1774. Amos married Elizabeth Wiley about 1795 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine. Elizabeth and Amos had nine children. They were: Jonas Hastings was born on 28 July 1779 in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine; Sally Hastings was born on 20 December 1779 in Eastport, Washington County, Maine; Amos Hastings was born on 31 May 1781 in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine; Betsy Hastings was born on 18 May 1782 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Lucinda Hastings was born on 24 April 1785 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Susanna Hastings was born on 31 May 1788 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Timothy Hastings was born on 31 October 1790 in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine; John Hastings was born on 06 May 1796 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; and Huldah Hastings was born on 17 April 1798 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine.
Note: General Amos Hastings, born February 3, 1757, was the youngest of the six. He helped to dig the trenches and fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill. He came to Fryeburg, Oxford, Maine, USA and on September 10, 1778, he married elizabeth Wiley of that town. The next spring he snowshoed the forty miles to Sudbury Canada (Bethel, Oxford, Maine, USA), in company with Benjamin Russell, to survey the prospects for a future home. He settled later in Middle Intervale and became a leading citizen in shaping the new town's affairs. By 1800 he had moved to the big farm on the north side of the river. His last years were spent on Broad Street in the village. Capt. Amos Hastings was made a Brigadier General in the militia of the American Army in 1815. In the War of 1812 he volunteered to serve in the armed services again, but was apparently not called upon for that brief conflict. He died July 28, 1829, and is buried in Woodland Cemetery on the Songo Road ...
