WOULD DECLARE WOMAN DEAD
Petition Filed in Surrogate's court - Move to Settle Estate
A petition was filed in surrogate's court last week to have Miss Theresa Bennett, formerly of Horicon, declared dead. The young woman left her home in Horicon in 1918, and at that time she was about 12 years of age.
The petition was filed by Clayton Bennett, of South Horicon, father of the missing girl, through his attorney, James S. Kiley, of Glens Falls. He also asks that in the event the court pronounces his daughter offficially dead that he be issued letters of administration of her estate.
The petition was filed as a means of settling the estate of the late Samuel C. Baker, of Horicon, to whom the missing girl was a grand neice. Mr. Baker left property valued at about $30,000.00, and Miss Bennett was one of the beneficiaries.

Ti Girl Declared Legally Dead
MissTheresa Bennett who disappeared from the home of the parents, Mr and Mrs Clayton Bennett, in Ticonderoga in 1918, when she was fourteen years of age, was declared legally dead by County Judge and Surrogate Paul L. Boyce Tuesday. Repeated efforts to locate Miss Bennett have failed. James S. Kiley, Glens Falls Attorney, petitioned Judge Boyce to rule Miss Bennett judicially dead in order that the estate of Samuel C. Baker, of Horicon, in which she had an interest, might be settled. Miss Bennett's mother being dead, the daughter's share will revert to the father. Judge Boyce ruled that in the event the girl should return home at any time and establish her identity, the father must make good to her the share in the estate.
