Frank C. Straw

The 1860 census in Watertown gives this information:
Straw Drew; painter; age 35; VT
Rosanna; 28; Ohio
Charles E.; 8; Wisconsin
* Frank C. 4 Ohio.
*Per research of June Huston Chase he was a s/o Charles Straw and Maria Hastings but was living with his uncle Drew in 1860.

This is a write up that appears in the Watertown, WI Democrat
8 Sept 1869
"A sad accident - Last Wednesday, the 6th inst, a party of three boys, among whom was Frank C. Straw, s/o Mr. D. Straw, procured a shot gun and started into the fields for a hunt. They had not been gone long, when they saw a meadow lark which they thought would afford a fair shot. In climbing over the fence to get a chance at the bird, the gun from some cause went off and the charge lodged into the left arm of young Straw between the elbow and shoulder, so badly tearing the flesh and shattering the bone, that amputation became immediately necessary. The lad is only about 15 years of age and in consequence of this lamentable casuality will be maimed for life. This is a calamity to be deeply regretted on his own account and that of his parents. Of course it would be easy to say a good deal on the occasion of this great affliction to a bright and active boy and warn others not to run risks in handling fire arms but as it would do no good, we must leave the distressing accident we have related to have its influence, which we hope will be salutary and prevent its repetition."

Per the Historical Society the boy died that same day. which may not be true as in the Will of Charles Edward Straw (s/o Drew Straw) and dated August 1912, there is a clause which reads as follows:
Eighteenth:
I give and bequeath to Frank C. Straw, brother of Artemus Straw, whose present address is unknown to me, the sum of one hundred cents.
