bullet  General Notes:

Personal Recollections of Jane O'Connor Foster (grand daughter)
Agnes was born in what is known as the Davis Place located on Davis Road which runs off Valentine Rd in Starbuckville area of Horicon, NY. From there the family moved to the farm on Al Bean Rd. It was here her two children were born in 1910 and 1913.
I have very little recollection of my grandmother. She entered Marcy State Hospital before I was born. My mother and her brother Ivan would go to visit her on a regular basis but the few times I went she seemed to have no interest in me. We would often bring a picnic lunch but she seemed content to return to her scheduled life there in the institution. For awhile I tried to write letters to her and she did write to me but it was not consistent. I'm afraid I never viewed her as a grandmother because I did not have her presence in my life.
My father's mother died when he was only 4 yrs old and that left me without either grandmother.
As every little girl is bound to do I chose a neighbor lady to take their places. She taught me to sew and knit and play parcheesi and it was in her warm bed that I spent my overnights. We ate ice cream and listened to Judy Canova on the radio and when TV came to Town we watched" I Love Lucy".
The memories I have of Agnes are all the stories my mother has told me about her when she was growing up. She was a very talented lady with sewing and crocheting and loved flowers and loved to write letters..I have several of hers written to my mother. I also have some crocheted peices she made. She had a wonderful sense of nature and passed it on to her daughter. Her earthy sayings were always in tune with things and she understood people so well. She would comment on the weather in a variety of catchy ways. e.g.... when the forecast was for several days in a row of rain she would say."Hired man needs a rest". If the sky was cloudy she would say that if there was "enough blue to make a pair of britches".. it would clear up. Her sayings that related to people and their ways were oft times true. "You can't never tell how far an old bull frog can jump" kind of said it all. She enjoyed her neighbors and loved family and made my mother aware of her ancestors by telling frequent stories of them which my mother has passed on to me. I have always regretted that the final years of her life were so far from the family and neighbors that she loved so much.

Her obituary appeared in the Glens Falls times as follows:
