Richard,Dora,Maurice and Nola E. Frederick living together at time of
1910 cencus of Gallia,OH. Richard,Dora and Maurice living on
Branciforte,Santa Cruz,Santa Cruz,CA at time of 1920 census. If thi s is so,
why did the 1920 cencus show the Richard Kerr family with son Maurice,
age 8?
Lived in Soquel when Maurice was a child; moved to El Granada area.
May also have lived in Oakland, CA. Appeared on 1920 CA census, livi ng
in Santa Cruz, CA on Branciforte.
Richard and family lived in several locations in California after lea viing
Ohio between 1910 and 1920. He appears on the Ohio census for Frankl in
Co. OH and appears on the 1920 census living in Santa Cruz,Santa Cruz ,CA.
On Vol 129, Sht 3, ED 219 it lists Rich 48, Dora 48 and Maurice 8.
Note: if census correct, Maurice born abt 1912.
Between 1920 and 1930, the family lived in Santa Cruz,Santa Cruz,CA;
Soquel,Santa Cruz,CA; El Granada,San Mateo,CA, and North San Juan,
Nevada,CA. They may have lived in Oakland,CA during the latter 1920's
where Richard's brother Ross lived. (Details on Ross as yet unconfirm ed)
In thw Probated will of Richard's father John, it gave Richard's
address as Oakland,CA. They were in El Granada in 1923 as evidenced
by the date of the Postmistress Certificate from San Mateo County
for Dora, who was the first Post Mistress of El Granada.
After the crash of 1929, the family lost most of their
wealth. Son Maurice left for Seattle,WA with his soon-to-be wife,
Maude Stevens Miller, widow of James Carlton Miller. Maude was born
in Calumet,MI and came to Grass Valley in 1918. Maurice and Maude
were married in Olympia,WA in abt 1930.
Dora Kerr received a small inheritance from a former friend in OH
and may have lived in Oakland for awhile before moving to Seattle,WA
where son Maurice Lived. Dora and Richard bought a small house in
the West Seattle District where son Maurice lived. Richard lived in
this location until his death in 1938. This house was across the
street from the Lafayette Grade School, and one block from the
business where sone Maurice worked, Radio Laboratories.
Remains cremated & sent from Resthaven Urn Garden Forest Lawn Cemeter y,
Seattle, Jan/Feb. 1957 to Santa Cruz Memorial Park (mausoleum). N-1 2, lower
bottom right of section near floor.
NOTE: Double check his death certificate for birth place!!! - on
census he gave birthplace as Wales,OH.
Maurice Frederick Kerr narrated story to son Robert, his father,
Richard talking about his father, John Richard, wearing kilts and
playing the bagpipes.
