General Notes: John & Becky Thurston's Pages - Ancestors of Lelia Waite Oaks"...(he was)a cabin-boy on an English vessel bound to Boston. Nine miles from land the vessel foundered. All the ship's crew, except the boy whose name was Oaks, were lost.[per CT Historical Society: "Nathaniel and one other male passenger, swam nine (9) miles through the cold waters of the North Atlantic to reach shore."] Nathaniel married Mary Holloway, daughter of Adam Holloway and Hannah Hayward, on 20 May 1703 in Concord, Massachusetts. (Mary Holloway was born on 25 Feb 1681 and died in 1733.) |
