bullet  General Notes:

Jacob Beyer, youngest son of Michael and Marie Beyer, was born in Baden, Germany, remained unmarried and always resided with his brother Philip.
He was an early rising and hard working man, often serving as a mason tender for his brother.
An interesting story is recalled by a member of the third gen-eration (Charles A. Beyer) of the first and only overcoat ever owned by the above mentioned Beyer.
It was in 1869, that he (Jacob) with his brother (Philip) journeyed to Carthage to bring home a casket for the burial of their mother. It was a bitter day in March but the nine year old lad ac- companied his father and uncle to the then small village of Carthage, even tho' the trip was made with a wagon and horses.
He says: "W'hile in town, Uncle Jake purchased an overcoat and r.early all the way home the two men were engaged in a controversy- Father wanting Uncle Jake to wear the new coat to keep his person warm and Uncle Jake stoutly refusing by word and action, lest he should in any way soil that new coat."
The relator of the above story affectionately 'speaks of Uncle Jake's generous and sacrificing nature shown to those whom he loved.
He died in his sixty-sixth year in 1897, in Naumburg. (This is from a book dated 1923 concerning the Beyer Family compiled by one Mrs. Ethylen Wilcox Millnitz. [courtesy of Sandra Hurd O'Connor]
