Obit in The Correctionville News, 23 September 1937, page 1: The life of Mrs. Betsey Rowse came to a close at her home Saturday and with her passing one of the pioneers has gone to that far country from which none return. Betsey Bourgaize was born June 23, 1845, on the Island of Guernsey in the Parish of St. Peters of the Woods, and passed away at her home September 18 at 10:15 a.m. being 91 years, 2 months and 26 days of age at the time of her departure. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Bourgaize and although she was one of eight children, she was the only one to grow to maturity. In 1859 she came with her parents to America and settled near Kenosha, Wisconsin, a short time later they moved to Campton, Iowa, (now known as Lamont) where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage to Samuel E. Rowse of Independence, Iowa, January 12, 1881, and they established their home near Greeley, Iowa, in Delaware County. In 1897 they moved to Correctionville at which place she has made her home ever since. Four children came to bless the home, two sons, William E. Rowse of Stockton, California, and Rupert J. of Lathroy, California; and two daughters, Mrs. Ed Cobb of Correctionville and Mrs. C.M. Lillie of Sioux City. She also leaves seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Rowse preceded her in death July 8, 1918. Mrs. Rowse received her early Christian training in the Church of England, and when a young woman united with the Baptist Church. When she moved to Correctionville she transferred her membership to the Methodist Church of which she has been a faithful member since. Mrs. Rowse was a member of Stella Chapter, O.E.S, the W.R.C. and the Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with her pastor, Rev. O.E. Schaal in charge, assisted by Rev. L.J. U. Smay. Interment was made in the Correctionville Cemetery under direction of Wilson-Hull Service.
