Notes for SAMUEL BAKER:
Samuel was listed as a Freeman at Exeter, RI in both 1745 and 1748. In 1760, Samuel Baker "for and in consideration of the sum of Two Thousand and four hundred pounds" paid by John Baker of Warwick sold him a 50 acre tract of land in Exeter. "Abigail Baker the wife. . . of Samuel Baker" willingly yielded up her "right of dower and power of thirds" in the land and premises. In 1771 Samuel Baker is listed on a census at Halifax, VT. On September 12, 1774 Samuel wrote a short letter from Halifax to his sister Susannah Sunderland "Executrix to Mother's Estate" concerning their mother, Susannah Stanton's bequest to Samuel in her will. This note is very important because it clearly establishes that the Samuel Baker at Halifax in the 1770s is the son of Susannah (Baker) Stanton and John Baker of Exeter, RI.
