WAITSFIELD - Ruth B. Andrews, 93, of Mad River Meadows Apartments, passed away at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008. Born in Littleton, Mass., on March 22, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Elisabeth (Bisbee) Backus. On Feb. 29, 1936, she married Fred F. Andrews in Warren. Fred predeceased Ruth on April 29, 1990.
Ruth attended schools in South Duxbury and was a 1932 graduate of Waitsfield High School. For many years Ruth worked as a private housekeeper and more recently was employed as a furniture finisher for Joslin Woodworking in Waitsfield. She later worked in custodial services for Banknorth of Waitsfield from which she retired.
Ruth was a longtime member and organist for the South Duxbury Church. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening and going to weekend dances with her husband, Fred. A gifted seamstress, Ruth also enjoyed quilting, needlework and bird watching.
She is survived by her eight children, Lois Andrews of Waterbury, Waneta Bushey of Schellsburg, Pa., Ellie Ferris of Moretown, Barbara Straw of Ocala, Fla., Nelda Hallstrom of Northfield, Linda Nelson of Hardwick, Douglas Andrews of South Duxbury and Norman Andrews of Northfield; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rett Wimble of Waitsfield and Alice DeLong of Berlin; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lu Griffith and Esther Blanchard, and a brother, Kenneth Backus.
Graveside services will be held from the South Duxbury Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
