Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Leah Agnes Chapin, 86, Clinton, died Friday, June 3, 1994, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital. She was born January 6, 1908, in Farmington, Iowa, to Dr. Thomas A. McWilliams and Bessie (House) McWilliams. She married Cecil C. Chapin on November 19, 1932. Cecil and Leah lived for several years in Appleton City and then moved to the Clinton area in 1945, where they owned and operated a prosperous turkey farm for several years. Cecil preceded her in death on February 12, 1983. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Melvin and Bill, and one sister Florence. Leah is survived by one son, Ronald T. Chapin and his wife Betty of Madison, West Virginia; one daughter, Bette Arnold and her husband Gene of Clinton; one sister Margaret Brown of Tucson, Arizona; one brother Dick McWilliams of Warsaw; four grandchildren, Donita Graham of Sparta, Debbie Long of Clinton, Steve Straw of Higbee and Vernon Straw of Clinton, and a great many friends. She was an active member of the community up to the time of her death. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton and also of Eastern Star. She regularly attended the Clinton Senior Center and served on the center's Building Committee. Leah was also an avid card player and belonged to a group which met weekly to play. Funeral services were held at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home on Sunday, June 5. She was laid to rest in the Appleton City Cemetery.
