"Mr Jens Anderson Ness, of Minnesota, was admitted to the same degree (Doctor of Philosophy) at the final exercises June 11 1901. In addition to Sanskrit, his main subject, and Greek and Latin, his subordinate subjects, Mr. Ness carried on extensive studies in Aveaten ? Lithuanian, the Germanic languages and Comparitive Philology. His dissertation is on *Concatanation in the Rig-Veda." [published 1901]

"Linguist had taught 33 years at Wittenberg College
Springfield O Oct 10 - Wittenberg College will halt its classes today to honor in death Dr. Jens A. Ness Professor of Latin at the college since 1904. Dr. Ness described at the college as one of the great linguists of his time and one of the few surviving capable students in Sanskrit, fell dead Friday at 73 while walking near his residence. He had just written a letter to his 98 year old mother in Red Wing, Minnesota. His funeral will be held today."
