www.googlebooks.com - A History of Northwest Missouri, Volume 3 - Lewis publishing Company, 1915 - Missouri edited by Walter Williams Henry Bissett, who died January 12, 1888, was born in Nova Scotia, April 9, 1846, and came from Kewanee, Illinois, to Holt County, Missouri, in February, 1883. His father was Edward Bissett, of French Huguenot descent, and by occupation a farmer and miller. The name originally was spelled Bizet in France, but after the family came to Canada the form was anglicized. In 1674 a record tells that Clara Bissot became the wife of one of America's greatest soldiers of fortune, Louis Joliet, who received a title to the Island of Anticosta. Some time later the English swooped down upon this island home in 1690, captured it, destroyed the fort and the houses erected by Joliet, seized his entire fortune and took his wife a prisoner. William H. Bissett's mother was Mary Cummins, who came with her parents to Nova Scotia when a child from Glasgow, Scotland. They were strict adherents of the Presbyterian Church.
William married Catherine Kennish, daughter of William Kennish and Catherine Callow, on 9 Sep 1883. (Catherine Kennish was born on 7 Dec 1851 in Isle of Man, United Kingdom and died on 13 Nov 1932 in Mound City, Holt County, Missouri, USA.)
