Albert Schlomberg

On a Passenger List for NY I found Albert Schlomberg with his record of emigration dated 3 May 1913 . He departed from Bremen, Germany aboard the USS George Washington - age 23 [came thru Ellis Island] ]

In 1914 (City Directory) Spring Avenue, Troy, NYand Residence of Frank Ostwald who is working as an iron worker. Albert Schlomberg is boarding with him. [Albert emigrated from Germany in 1913 and is probably living with Frank as we find later they are half brothers.]

Albert's name is entered on the line of the entry above the entry for Frank Ostwald who heads the household as follows: Albert Slumburgh [brother] age 25 estimate birth year as 1890 and born Germany; he has been in USA for 2 yrs and works as a "laborer structural foundry"[same occupation as listed for Frank Ostwald]

I found an application for a passport dated May 1921 for A lbert Schlomberg He stated he was born 6 Feb 1890 in ** Gelsenkirchen, Germany and his father's name is Karl Schlomberg and the father resided in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Albert resided in Troy, NY until 1921 and was naturalized in Troy on 6 May 1921. He was living in Troy and working as a "porter". Leaving from Port of NY on board Minnekahda? [I can't decipher the spelling of this ship] On 30 June 1921 to visit relatives in Holland
He returned via the SS Hansa sailing from Hamburg [Germany] on 21 Nov 1921 [age 31] on a US passport as a naturalized citizen of USA.

On 30 July 1928 there is an entry that he, his wife Josephine and son Carl sailed from Bremen, Germany aboard the SS Dresden to Port of NY. Albert is 38, Josephine 28 and son Carl is age 3. Their US address is 1311 2nd Ave in Watervliet, Albany County, NY [In the 1930 census he gives his address as 1311 2^nd Ave in Watervliet, NY]

In Albert's obit of Dec 1955, Frank Ostwald is listed as one of his brothers and Schlomberg is buried in St. Jean's Cemetery. The obit of Albert Schlomberg in THE TROY RECORD dated 31 Dec 1955 says Albert died at age 66 [estimate birth year at 1889].He worked for the Troy Club for 37 years as a porter….married Josephine Houben and had sons Albert J. Jr, Wm F and Carl. His sisters were Mrs May Koeler [Marie Ostwald Koehler] of Amsterdam, NY and Mrs Wm Krueger [Bertha Schlomberg] of Albany, NY. Along with Frank Ostwald, as a brother, another brother, William Schlomberg is also named. It is of interest to note that in Frank Ostwald's obituary [1957] he also names as his brother William Schlomberg [Albert is now deceased] and the two sisters. They had the same mother with different fathers..She first married to Ostwald. He died young. she then married to Karl Schlomberg

Albert married Josephine Houben, daughter of Houben and Living. (Josephine Houben was born on 22 Apr 1900 in Gelsenkirchen in Ruhr Basin, Germany, died in 1959 and was buried in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Troy, NY.)
