www.findagrave.com - Nancy Georgann Moore Morrison passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord on Nov. 24, 2009. Nancy was born in Helena's old St. Peter's Hospital on July 21, 1921, to William A. and Nina L. Kimbell Moore. She is survived by her three sons, Kenneth K. (Sherry), Steven A., and Scott C. (Tina), all of Helena; five grandchildren, Kammie (Ryuichi) Takahashi of Missouri, Sean (Hope) Morrison of Illinois, Ami Kuxhaus of Helena, Christy (Marc) McCauley of Helena, and Katy (Bill) Fields of Helena; 12 great-grandchildren with another on the way, sister-in-law Mable Morrison of Spokane, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Morrison, parents, sisters Marion (Wally) Barr, Dorothy (Alva) Straw, Nina, Kathryne (Earl) Shafer, Margaret (Tom) Hay, and Byllee (Red) Craig, niece Dianna Abell and great-nephews Jay Straw and Phillip Baucus. Her father died in a car accident while performing his duties as a Lewis & Clark County commissioner in 1926. Following this tragedy, she lived with her mother at the Intermountain Union College in Helena where her mother was the beloved matron for many years. The beginning of WWII brought many changes to people across America and it also coincided with Nancy's marriage to Kenneth A. (Knuck) Morrison in Helena on Jan. 10, 1942. For the next 66 years they shared a wonderful life filled with their favorite people, activities and adventures. Nancy was a people person, and throughout her life she made many lifelong friends in school as a child, with her neighbors, while working at Shodair Children's Hospital, during her career at the Montana Department of Fish and Game, with her involvement in church groups and volunteer activities at the First Presbyterian Church and, of course, with her extended family. Her gentle nature lent itself naturally to the development of these friendships and also to the emotional development of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Traveling to visit relatives and friends in California, Arizona and Utah fit well with Nancy and Knuck's love of camping, fishing and RVing. For many years following their retirement, they would leave Helena's winter cold for the comfortable warmth of the Southwestern U.S., returning to their family in the northern climates only when it was time to plant their garden in the spring. Nancy's family holds dear wonderful memories of camping in places such as the Madison River area where she and Knuck would meet with relatives from Montana and California. After her love of Christ, her family was most important to her and she will always be remembered for the togetherness she promoted with her sisters and their families as well as for the joy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought to her. Even though she suffered from dementia during the final years of her life, she maintained her intelligence, winning first prize recently in a spelling bee held at her final home at Helena's Hunters Pointe. The four generations of Nancy's family living in Helena and elsewhere are a testimony to her role as matriarch passing on her experiences as well as her loving, gentle nature to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will greatly miss her but rejoice that she is now with God.A memorial service celebrating Nancy's life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4, at the First Presbyterian Church with a reception following. A private interment of her cremated remains will be held at Forestvale Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Intermountain Children's Home or the First Presbyterian Church's youth groups. [Helena Independent Record Dec.1, 2009]
