Woman Called Mrs. Phoebe Manning, wife of John Manning, died at 3 o'clock this morning at Slaterville, aged 77 years. The woman's husband is 86 years of age and is one of the old-timers, though not a pioneer. Mrs Manning was in good health up to within a few hours of her death. Last night she was suddenly seized with severe pains and died before medical assistance could reach her. She was a native of Nottingham, England, and left twelve children. Ogden, Utah, April 29-Death came very unexpectedly at 3 o'clock yesterday morning to Mrs. Phoebe S. Manning, wife of John Manning, at the family residence in Slaterville, Weber county. Although Mrs. Manning had arrived at the ripe age of 77 years, she enjoyed comparatively good health. Thursday evening she ate a hearty supper and retired at the usual hour making no complaints of feeling any way distressed. at about midnight she was awakened with severe pains through her back. Her husband awoke also her daughter, and they didi all possible to relieve the pains, but their efforts were of no avail, and she expired at 3 o'clock.
Mrs Manning was born in Nottingham, England, April 14, 1828. At the age of 20 she heard the "Mormon" missionaries preach the Gospe; and accepted the same, remaining faithful to her religous convictions to the end. Twentyfive years ago she emigrated to Utah and ahs resided here ever since. She is the mother of a large posterity, having had 16 children, 12 of whom with her aged husband and many grandchildren survive her. Two of her daughters reside in Idaho, and the time and place of funeral will not be arranged until they are heard from. Deseret evening news April 29, 1905

Phoebe married Samuel Straw. (Samuel Straw was born circa 1824 in Derbyshire, Yorkshire, England, died on 9 Apr 1889 in Almy, Uinta County, Wyoming and was buried in Almy Cemetery in Uinta County, Idaho.)
