Feb. 6, 1923 -Feb. 18, 2010 GOSHEN- Nellie I. Swoveland, 87, of 18939 C. R. 18, died at 9:05 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 18, 2010) in her daughter Elaine's home.
She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Goshen to Harvey and Lydia (Hostetler) Harshberger. On Jan. 14, 1946, she married Grover E. Swoveland in Goshen; he died Nov. 8, 2003.
Mrs. Swoveland is survived by three daughters, Elaine Sheets, Kathleen (Douglas) Love and Carolyn (Larry) McKibbin, all of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elsie Straw and LouiseYoder, both of Goshen.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Charlene Gay (Kathleen's twin), on April 3, 1952; one son, Devon R. Swoveland on May 2, 2002; five brothers, Leo, Wilbur, Marion, Glenn and Edward Harshberger; and one sister, Rosemary Vorhis.
Mrs. Swoveland had worked at Johnson Controls, Goshen, Maley's and Alco dimestores, and Bill Long and Associates, where she cleaned homes. She was a member of City Church of the Brethren, a former member of the Goshen Moose and had attended Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen.
She enjoyed bowling and gardening, and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to Monday's 11 a.m. funeral service atYoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen. Pastor Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church and Timothy Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in West Goshen Cemetery.
