General Notes:
www.fold3.com- letter written by Mary (Kennedy) Flowers-BARNEY on or about July 1873: "I, Mrs. Mary Barney of Jericho in the County of Chittenden and the state of Vermont on oath say that I am the daughter of Timothy Kennedy late Private CO H of the 5th Regt VT Vols. I know that my father died leaving three children under 16 years of age, one by his last marriage (to) Harriet S. Abbott and two by his first marraige. The name of the child by his last wife is Timothy, now the ward of Edwin Hall. the names of his children of his first marriage that he left surviving under the age of 16 years of age at his death are (now) James Kennedy born 22 March 1848 and Sarah E. Kennedy born at Montreal in Canada the 27th of March 1853. I lived at the house where she was born at the time of ner birth and know the date of her birth is correctly given. The mother of said Sarah E, James and myself was the wife of said Timothy Kennedy who was a member of said company. I understand that my father and mother were married in England the 9th day of June AD 1839. There is no public record evidence of said marriage but I knew they lived together as husband and wife and from AD 1854 til 1862 in said Jericho and were treated and recognized by all as husband and wife as they were in fact. My mother's name before her marraige was Sarah Pitt. She died at said Jericho in the month of December AD 1859 and afterwards father married Harriet S. Abbott who now is the wife of Edwin Hall, the guardian of said boy Timothy. My sister the said Sarah E died on the 22nd day of September AD 1871 and was buried at said Jericho. I was at her funeral. Said (boy) Timothy, James and Sarah E. were the only chil;dren that my father left surviving, under the age of 16 years. L. F. Wilbur of Jericho as the guardian of said Sarah E. made application for Pension for her in 1869 [appointed guardian 3 March 1869] # 172,692 but I understand it has not been granted. Said James lives in the state of Minnesota. I no (sic) of no record evidence of the birth of said James and Sarah E.. Said Sarah E. died unmarried. I further state that I have no interest in Edwin Hall's claim for pension as guardian of Timothy Kennedy nor in its prosecution." (signed Mrs Mary Barney and given to Erastus Field, JP of Chittenden County, VT]
