Daniel also wrote a letter to the Sec of War [dated Aug 1842] while his son in law was in service asking for an early discharge as Bonney was to be sent to Carlisle, PA in preparation for a march to the Western Frontier and it was not granted by the Sec of War. It looks like he was granted a 30 day leave. He noted in his letter of application for early discharge it was due to illness of Hannibal's wife and there were two small children.

Daniel married Hannah Johnson.
